2008 Program Details:
A 2-Week Summer Residency Program
for Artists
Art in Amsterdam
is a program designed for artists, teachers, and advanced students
who are motivated and serious about exploring art and art making.
This is an intense studio experience where lots of work is produced
and lots of discussion happens along the way.
This 2-week program includes:
- Spacious studio space
- Room and breakfast (double occupancy)
- Individual and group critiques and direction
- Visiting artist seminars and critiques
- Guided museum visits and lecture
- Much more…
As of February 2006 participants can receive
Course
Credit through Massachusetts College of Art (MassArt)
for attending this program.
The Directors
of the program are available to each participant for individual
feedback, consultation, and instruction. Individual consultations
and group critiques are held regularly. Some participants come
into this program with a personal plan or project, while others
work with us to design a direction in which to work.
We also provide individual instruction with assignment-based directives
for those who need or prefer more structure. We encourage an interdisciplinary
focus, experimenting with ideas and mixing of media, and working
out new concepts and approaches that will further each artist's
own unique work and expression.

and their work click on the director's link below.
The Art in Amsterdam program is
held at the Wackers
Academie of Art, a charming Old World art school
not far from Amsterdam's historic city center. Studios will be
open seven days a week, with arranged evening hours. Hours will
be decided according to the group's general needs and working
habits. In addition to working in the studio, there will be numerous
opportunities for drawing, painting, and constructing things on-sight
in and around the city.
We stay in a small friendly hotel right in the Museum
Quarter of Amsterdam, the art and cultural hub of the city, where
we are steps from art museums, galleries, shopping, restaurants,
and Amsterdam's most beautiful park, Vondelpark.
We take guided and working visits to the major art
museums: the Rijksmuseum
, the Stedelijk
Museum of Modern Art, and the Van
Gogh Museum - all located right in the Museum Quarter
- and we'll explore many contemporary art galleries exhibiting
modern and up-and-coming art in the city. You will also have the
opportunity to visit the Rembrandt
House, the Anne
Frank House, and a number of other historical museums
and monuments in and around the city.
The weather in Amsterdam in July is warm, with long
days and brilliant light. The sun sets between 10 and 11 PM each
day, which is a great advantage for site drawing, painting, and
photography, or simply relaxing at a canal-side café and watching
the boats float by. More
about the city.
In addition, we often take day trips outside of
the city - based on exhibitions and the group's general interests
- to one or more of the following museums: the DePont Museum of
Contemporary Art in Tilburg, the Franz Hals Museum in Haarlem,
and the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo, which houses Europe's
largest sculpture garden and holds the largest collection of Van
Goghs in the world.
Note: A full and detailed prospectus will be available
to participants after deposits are received.
