About Art in Amsterdam
A 2-Week Summer Residency Program for
Artists
Each summer, Art in Amsterdam
brings together a community of working artists, art teachers,
and advanced students to visit and produce art in Amsterdam. This
is an intensive studio experience, dedicated to the process and
joy of working in the studio, while being immersed in the art
and culture of this truly unique, world-class city. And now participants
can receive Course
Credit through Massachusetts College of Art (MassArt)
for attending this program.
Art
in Amsterdam provides a unique opportunity for artists
to work independently, but within a supportive and stimulating
community of other artists, developing and exploring new, as well
as recurring, ideas, concepts, and approaches that will further
expand and enhance each artist's own unique work. The Directors
provide feedback, consultation, and instruction on an individual
basis, and facilitate both individual and group critiques regularly.
We work in drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture, collage,
and various forms of mixed media and installation. We utilize
and encourage both traditional and non-traditional approaches,
while emphasizing experimentation with a focus on the creative
process. Artists working in almost any media are encouraged to
apply.
The
program is studio-based with museum and gallery visits, seminars,
and art making projects. We welcome all serious and motivated
artists of various backgrounds, experience, and training.
We
stay in a small friendly hotel right in the Museum Quarter of
Amsterdam. Our studios are nearby in a small private art school,
just outside of, but not far from the city center. We'll have
free access to almost every museum in The Netherlands.
Art
in Amsterdam is a program for those who are motivated
and serious about exploring art and art making. It's ideal for
artists who are looking for the time, space, and challenge of
working independently, but within a community of other artists.
This is an intense studio experience where lots of work is produced,
a diverse array of artwork is studied and discussed, and many
individual discoveries and breakthroughs are made along the way.
We invite you to join us!
Participant Comments
"Thank you again for a wonderful
experience...It really changed my life!" --Erika
"The program is still revealing
itself to me, little things here and there that I hadn't noticed
before. I'm so glad I was able to go on this trip, it's really
been life changing. I want to thank you for giving me this opportunity."
--Melanie
"I am so glad that I was able
to go to your program and so grateful for what you gave me. I
think the most important thing I gained from the two of you was
the understanding that my options in art-making are so much greater
than I had realized, that there were so many assumptions I held
(unknowingly) that limited what I was doing. I had created obstacles
for myself that I was unaware of, but that held me back from allowing
myself to have ideas and to make things based on those ideas.
I thank you both from the bottom
of my heart for this great gift you have given me. I hope that
you will both continue to be part of my art and my life."
--Sherry
"The time I spent in Amsterdam
remains a positive and inspiring force within me, as I continue
to realize what a huge impact that experience has had on me. Thank
you both for organizing that tremendous effort and sharing your
wealth of knowledge, experience, passion, and curiosity!"
